I have been doing a little more work on this today, the pupil wasn't the right shape  before so I have slightly altered that.  I have also started to put the eyebrow in.  That will need to dry before I put on the darker layer or will end up all muddy.  I could have done it the other way round and started with a dark but I kept getting it wrong so I decided to go for light.  I will add dark next then go back over with light just as highlights.  Still only using two colours and I dont intend to use any others.  Today I went and booked a spot in Gallery 150 which is in Livery Street, Leamington Spa and I will have some of my work hanging in there from 21 December 2010 until 9 January 2011.

This is Day 3 of this portrait and he still doesn't have any eyebrows.  I think I will put those on tomorrow as well as his eyelashes.  Still only using two colours as said before.  Not much more I can say about it really, oh yes, the eye itself is still to have more work done on it.

Day w of this new portrait and I've been working with a horrible headache all day.  Think it might be a prelude to a cold because I dont normally get them.  I have continued to work in just the two colours of raw umber and titanium white.  I went to look at a gallery today too, it's a really nice one and belongs to the local artists group here in Leamington and I couldn't understand why I hadn't bothered to join this group as it's in my home town.  I found out why I hadn't done it before, on the application for membership you have to submit pics of your paintings and get them approved by someone or other so that you can join.  Well I have sent them this site address and let's see if I can get in.  Think that might be why I joined one of the Coventry ones.

Started this new portrait today, at about 7'o'clock this morning to be precise.  I think I was still in Brussels time to be honest.  This portrait is going to stay macroed right in and I have already started to add lots of wrinkles.  The eye is also going to be quite extreme in the way it will look, a creepy one all round really.  Only two colours are being used again, raw umber and titanium white and, at the moment I am not sure whether I will be adding colour or not.  I will see how it goes.  As usual too, the painting is flat, none of the paint is put on thickly.  The only bit I am struggling with is the top eyelid and this will need a bit more work to get it completely right.

Pears

I have continued to put another layer on this pears painting.  I found a great way to use this diary too, I couldn't remember how I had got the effect of the skin of pear but trawling back through I found when I had done one before.  Tomorrow I will add another layer of the same.  The colours I have used are in pears: raw umber, sap green and titanium white and for the background: cobalt blue, titanium white and sap green.

This one that I started at the weekend has ended up a little on the Surreal side.  I quite like it like that so I am going to carry on with it.  This is just the underpainting and I am about to start putting detail into the pears.  The colours that I have used so far are raw umber, titanium white, burnt umber, yellow ochre, sap green and cobalt blue.

This is a photo of my painting hanging in Rugby Art Gallery, Rugby, Warwickshire as part of The Rugby Open.  The exhibition is really good, there are some fantastic works in there and I am still amazed that one of mine is hanging alongside them.  Well worth a visit if you go into Rugby, the gallery is right in the centre of the town and is easily accessible.  I have put some other pictures that I took there too, the preview night was really crowded, amazing turn out on a very wet and wild night.

This painting really hates being photographed, I have now tried it in all lights, outside and inside to no avail so I'm just going to have to be content with this.  I have left it just monotone as I think I prefer it that way.  I am hoping that you can see that it is an older Harry Potter.

The glasses were a blinking nightmare to try and get right too.  First of all one glass was round and the other verging on square.  It was easy to put right because it is monotone though, would have had to be trashed if it was coloured.  I think they are still a little odd but I wont fiddle about anymore with it.  I heard a great phrase the other day that said

“An artist never really finishes his work; he merely abandons it. —Paul Valéry
So that's what I will continue to do-Wendy Cook

I'm back on it now, well I think I am.  I have had to put my Rugby scrum to one side for a while so that I can work out where I go next with it as it has become well and truely stuck.  I think I should have left it as a sketch and not blocked it all in.

This is a portrait of a celebrity but I'm not going to say which one in case you go "dont look anything like him".  I have only been working in raw umber and titanium white and it is a very dark and shadowy portrayal.  Hence the state of the photo which has got lots of noise on it.  I carried it all over the house trying to take in different lights but nothing was improving the finished photo.  Let me know if you think you know who it is, would be very interesting.
